A saber is a slashing and thrusting weapon consisting of a blade, a hilt, and a scabbard. In the Caucasus, several types of sabers are prevalent, each decorated with patterns that often reveal their place of origin. The light Caucasian saber features a very wide, short blade with a gentle curve, grooves, and a very sharp tip. The hilt has a flat-oval cross-section, gradually tapering towards the pommel, which is designed in the shape of a beast’s head with an open mouth. The crossguard is small and of Iranian type. The scabbard is wooden, covered with leather, and fitted with hardware of Iranian design.
