The most important attribute for a Caucasian was the dagger, which was carried in beautifully crafted scabbards hanging from the belts of traditional clothing called "cherkeska." Daggers were sometimes named after renowned masters. They were used both as weapons and as everyday tools for various domestic tasks, such as chopping kindling. In Dagestan, Adygea, Ossetia, Chechnya, and Kabarda, men carried daggers continuously, starting from adolescence.
